Benjamin Findlay, Regina-based Wealth Advisor, Associate Advising Representative, was in private equity for over five years prior to joining CC&L Private Capital. Ben recalls, “I was engaging with financial advisors across Saskatchewan when I found myself interested in the opportunity to work more closely with clients.”
“I value the lifelong relationships I have with my clients and their families. It is a privilege not just to meet with a client, but also with their children and sometimes their grandchildren, and to discuss wealth management and their plans for the future. I find a lot of fulfilment in making a meaningful difference in families, across generations.”
Why CC&L Private Capital
Ben says that what initially attracted him to CC&L Private Capital was the chance to truly specialize in wealth management, stressing, “The conditions for success are enhanced when you have a whole team of subject matter specialists behind you, enabling you to focus on your clients.” Our highly skilled teams of risk and compliance officers, together with our investment planning and trading experts, are all dedicated to supporting wealth advisors so that they can remain singularly focused on serving their clients. “I’ve found that this specialization and focus is something that attracts clients to CC&L Private Capital, too,” Ben adds.
“The other thing that really appealed to me was the opportunity to continue working with private equity, as well as the broader suite of alternative asset classes we offer clients. Within the broader CC&L Financial Group, the breadth and depth of expertise is truly impressive. Our affiliates’ asset managers are all experts in their respective fields, from traditional local and international stocks and bonds to alternative assets, such as private loans, private equity, real estate and infrastructure. To be able to offer my clients access to these kinds of institution-quality investment opportunities is exceptionally rare, and a meaningful value-add for clients.”
Team support, training and mentorship
Given the vast amount there is to learn for a wealth advisor who is new to the firm, our formal induction process is comprehensive and robust. And the ongoing training we offer — from business development coaching and support to weekly investment updates by our various affiliate teams — ensures wealth advisors remain up-to-date on our full suite of investment solutions. This has been something Ben has found invaluable.
“The opportunity to get insights directly from our in-house affiliates’ portfolio managers and asset-mix team, and to be able to regularly raise questions my clients are asking me, enables me to offer them a one-of-a-kind level of service. And this team approach extends to all aspects.
“Upon joining CC&L, one of the senior partners in the Regina office really made an effort to take me under his wing. He showed me how he managed his clients; he was right beside me in my first few meetings; and he continues to be a support to me today, even in his retirement. Many tenured wealth advisors across our regional offices have also been a great support, freely sharing their experiences. And I have learnt much from other wealth advisors in various stages of their career, all from different jurisdictions, and all with very different client bases and management styles. I’ve been able to identify those strategies that were effective for them and to integrate them into my practice, in my own way. It is my privilege to now share those learnings with other new recruits.”
Entrepreneurial spirit
“This culture of mentorship and support is just one of the firm’s standout qualities. Another is its entrepreneurial spirit. Furthermore, the fact that we are independent and owner-operated affords one the opportunity to become a business owner in the firm. This creates a truly unique alignment of interests with our clients and reinforces the trust they place in us.”
Ben adds, “I'm excited about the future. I work with many great local families, very kind and humble Saskatchewanites, as well as a number of other families across Canada, who I really enjoy working with. There is so much opportunity here to make a significant positive impact on peoples’ lives.”
